How a Kitchenette Can Be Used to Enhance Your Accommodation Business

 * Article contributed to by Elfin Kitchens

Whether your accommodation premises are in the form of a hotel, apartments, a bed and breakfast or even a campsite, having a place to clean, prepare and cook food and beverages is essential.

Here we take a look at kitchenettes, what they are and the many ways that they can be used to enhance different types of accommodation to improve the stay of your customers.

        What is a Kitchenette?

Often referred to as a compact kitchen, micro kitchen or mini kitchen, a kitchenette is a practical, space-saving and highly flexible concept that can be incorporated into even the smallest of spaces. They can be tailored to meet your exact requirements with a wide range of styles, colours, materials and appliance options available for you to pick and choose from to create the perfect kitchen area for your accommodation.

        Where Are Kitchenettes Used?

In this day and age, space is an extremely valuable commodity, and so new buildings are being built smaller or existing properties are having to squeeze more into the same square footage. Kitchen facilities are extremely important and the demand for functional, affordable yet compact kitchens is at an all-time high. Just some of the types of places where mini kitchens are used include;

-          Offices

-          Staff rooms

-          Hotels, Airbnb's, hostels, bed & breakfasts

-          Student accommodation

-          Studio apartments and flats

-          Small houses

-          Home offices

-          Camping, glamping, pods and treehouses

The facilities at your accommodation can mean the difference between happy, returning guests and a 5* review or your customers leaving feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. Having a great working kitchen, no matter the size or space, allows them to quickly and easily prepare and cook their own snacks and meals, make hot drinks and safely store their food.

Hotels

Hotels aren’t commonly known for having kitchens in them, instead usually opting for a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities at most. However, there has been a rise in the number of hotels including a kitchenette within some if not all their hotel rooms, especially those that also function as an aparthotel or extended stay hotel.

Adding a fridge that actually keeps drinks cold, a sink, microwave and some cupboard space can be all that is needed to make your guests stay much more comfortable and have them eager to book their return visit.

Glamping

Glamping comes in many forms nowadays from yurts, cabins and treehouses to pods, huts and lodges. With this type of accommodation, you tend to get guests who want to fend for themselves a little, yet still enjoy the creature comforts of home.

Incorporating a kitchenette into your glamping accommodation allows your guests to be self-sufficient and relax in their own space without having to venture out to use shared facilities, increasing your chances of some very happy campers (well glampers)!

Airbnb

An Airbnb can take many forms and whilst some people may be renting out their own homes, for others it has become a thriving business. Maintaining your facilities can be a challenge and unfortunately, not all guests are as considerate as others when they stay, and this can make owners hesitant to add in an expensive kitchen.

A compact kitchen is not only affordable, but they tend to come pre-built which means no costly outlay for installation, and they can be fitted in under 30 minutes. Because of this, kitchenettes can work out to be extremely time and cost-effective, without the need for tradesmen or delays that could mean your accommodation sits empty, losing money.
