Last month, I visited
Birmingham’s very own chocolate wonderland – the new-look Thorntons
store on High Street, with its shelves brimming with chocolate delights. There
were so many treats to sample, many of which can then be personalised on site
by the expert Thorntons team.
Ahead of its official re-opening on 11th
September, I had the chance to enjoy some me-time and look around the new
Craftery, where you can discover a host of delicious chocolate treats lovingly
created by Thorntons chocolate makers. And boy, do they know their stuff!
Before I knew it, I had spent an hour
hearing all about the concepts behind the chocolate creations, which you can
select to make a bespoke chocolate box, learning about what makes the Classics
collection just so popular, and trying out some new things too, such as their new
Pearls (you MUST try them for yourself), as well as the chocolatey themed
options-to-go, from ice – cream shakes and hot chocolates (yes please) to the
creamiest of ice cream stand alone flavours (would have been rude not to).
For me, this newly re-opened Thorntons
isn’t just a chocolate shop; it’s a chocolate experience. It epitomises
everything Thorntons is about – bringing their 100 plus years’ worth of
experience in confectionery right up to date, right on our high street – and
provides chocolate fans with a haven to visit when they want to treat
themselves or someone they love.
And what better way to show your
appreciation to someone you love than to ‘Pass the Love On’ with Thorntons –
which is just what I did with my chocolate haul. Here are my three top picks:
- Craftery – create your own perfect box of chocolates by selecting from a wide variety of handcrafted chocolate delights, many of which, I learned, are developed by a expert team of chocolate makers, who are always dreaming up new combinations and textures.
- Personalisation station – pick any chocolate model you like, from trains, cars and dinosaurs to teddies and champagne bottles, and have it hand iced by an expert before your very eyes, before it’s gift wrapped with care.
- Ice-cream shakes – not to be missed, the food and drinks on offer to have on the go are divine and the milkshake was so creamy and delicious. I’ll be going back again for more soon no doubt.
There’s a lot to look at and try at
Thorntons and it feels like more of an experience than your usual shopping trip
as the team are so happy to share their love and knowledge of chocolate with
you.
Did
you know?
Thorntons
started their journey in 1911 where Joseph Thornton had the clear ambition to
make his shop “the best sweet shop in town”.
Thorntons then grew its experience and knowledge around confectionery craftsmanship
which the introduction of Easter Eggs in 1922, a unique toffee recipe in 1924
and the launch of Thorntons Continental in 1954.
What to expect from the new-look Birmingham High Street store:
- New Craftery
will be revealed, offering customers the chance to ‘create your own’ box
of chocolates
- Thorntons
hot chocolate and chocolatey milkshakes are now available to buy-in-store
- The personalisation
station where chocolate models can be iced and beautifully wrapped
- Customers
can browse the Chocolate Blocks library and create their own, personalized
tower of blocks
- In-store
chocolate fountain, complete with a station full of strawberries, fudge,
brownies and mini doughnuts, to cover in a delicious layer of chocolate
- First-look
at the newly relaunched Classics range
I knew I loved chocolate before, but
visiting Thorntons
really brought the whole idea of ‘bringing chocolate to life’ a reality, therefore, it’s somewhere I will be visiting
again – and highly recommend to all fans of delicious, chocolatey treats.
This
post was part of a press trip I was invited on by Thorntons, all items given to
me at the event were gifted, but all views are my own.
