Take one dress...

Possibly my favourite high street shop for women's fashion is H&M. I rarely go in without coming out with something and find that they have a great mix of essentials / classics and trend led pieces, at affordable prices too.

More often than not, I find something in a style I like and they then have it in several colours or patterns. I bought a couple of striped slouched jumpers years ago and still have them now, as they're just so wearable and have washed and worn well. I recently found a nice t-shirt style cotton buttoned blouse with three quarter length sleeves, great for the season transition and versatile enough to be worn casually or smartened up with a blazer. I then had to get it in some of the other patterns, so now have it in black, powder blue and three patterned options. Each one looks different and it's a great wardrobe staple, for just £7.99 each.

H&M is great for this kind of thing and I've been wearing a t-shirt style dress as a signature look for months now, but find I always wear it different each time.

I snapped it up in almost every variant - bold red, black, khaki and navy for smarter style and then light grey and a striped dark grey for a more weekend friendly vibe. They were just £12.99 at the time and work with tights, bare legs come summer or even over skinny jeans.

At the moment, a blazer or a cropped or long-line cardigan work well coupled with one of these dresses. They can be styled up with a statement necklace, a chunky scarf, a neckerchief around the neck or on the wrist or with a belt added.

The navy looks particularly smart with a scarf, the red is so vibrant that it suits a bolder look for day to night, the black of course goes with anything and the khaki green looks brilliant with brushed gold accessories.

Leather or denim jacket, heels, platform boots, pumps or Converse, they all go with this look too.

I find you can always rely on H&M for staple wardrobe items like these and love how versatile such pieces can be.
