Liverpool’s a great place for a family day trip and if you’re planning a visit to this city on the Mersey, you can rest assured there’s plenty to keep you and your brood busy.
I've only been twice and both times without hubs and Ethan in tow, but I really enjoyed my visits and saw that there's lots to do, so would love to go back as a family.
So that you don’t miss the highlights, here are three top attractions that Liverpool has to offer that you’ll
want to add to your itinerary:
1. Liverpool ONE
Emerging
as one of the most popular retail destinations in Europe, Liverpool ONE can be
an ideal base for family days out. As well as a host of shops, it’s home to numerous
child-friendly eateries and an Odeon cinema that runs a special kids’ club on
Saturday and Sunday mornings.
It also contains Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf,
which is an 18-hole indoor crazy golf course that you can enjoy whatever the
weather. You can also take advantage of a free buggy loan service if you visit
the Q Park office with your car parking ticket. With so many different things
to do, and much of it indoors, this is undoubtedly one of the city’s top
attractions come rain or shine.
2. The Albert Dock
The
iconic Albert Dock, which dates back to the 1840s and wears its industrial past
with pride, is a major draw for tourists from around the UK and further afield.
Its impressive buildings contain a mixture of popular galleries, museums and
restaurants - all offering stunning views of the World Heritage Site
waterfront.
Highlights include the Tate Liverpool, the Beatles Story (complete
with interactive children’s discovery zone) and the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
It’s also well worth visiting the new Mattel Play! Liverpool, which opened
earlier this year. Based on popular TV characters like Bob the Builder and
Thomas & Friends, it’s an adventure play attraction spanning three
differently themed zones.
3. Mersey Ferries
No
trip to Liverpool is complete until you’ve enjoyed views of the whole of the
city’s waterfront on a boat ride across the Mersey. Each year, more than
600,000 people climb aboard Mersey Ferries to get the best vistas of the
impressive skyline. If it’s a sunny day, you can enjoy the experience on deck
with the wind in your hair, and if the weather’s not so nice you can keep warm
under cover while still taking in the sights and sounds. The Daily River
Explorer Cruise operates all year and runs between Pier Head in Liverpool and
Woodside and Seacombe on the Wirral. The total journey lasts just under an
hour, and you have the option of breaking your journey up and re-starting it at
any terminal.
With
attractions like these on offer, it’s no surprise that Liverpool’s such a
popular choice for families looking for an action-packed adventure.
